The League of Terre Haute (League) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to children. Founded in 1928 by a group of local women League has impacted the lives of thousands of children and families in our community.
LEAGUE HAS TWO CORE MISSIONS
The first is to provide new clothing to children. Throughout the school year students in grades K-12 that do not have suitable clothing are identified. Orders are sent from the school to the League Clothes Closet and filled by our members. Filled orders contain enough NEW clothing to last a child for one week. For some it may be the only time they get something that isn’t handed down or used. Items provided include: Jeans, Sweatpants, Sweatshirts, Long Sleeve Shirts, Short Sleeve Shirts, Socks, Undergarments, Coat, and Hat & Gloves.
The second mission of League is dental health and education. Some students in our community never visit a dentist or even get a new toothbrush. Each February during National Dental Health Month, League furnishes every elementary school student as well as designated area preschools with a toothbrush, floss and toothpaste. They also receive a workbook with fun activities that teach them about dental hygiene. This year we provided over 7,000 students with these items.
